Citizens invited to have their say on council’s top priorities

A new consultation launches today (Friday 13 August) focusing on Bristol City Council’s draft five-year plan for 2022 to 2027.

13 August 2021

The Corporate Strategy 2022 to 2027, once consulted on, will become the council’s main strategic document, setting its overall vision for the council, its services and what it is trying to achieve alongside many partners in Bristol and beyond.

It is a high-level strategic response to the opportunities and challenges facing Bristol now and in the future, forming the basis of detailed future business plans and how the council organises itself.

The strategy includes proposed top priorities for the coming five years, taking account of major challenges like COVID-19 and recovery, climate change, the ecological emergency and tackling structural inequality and poverty in the city. The One City Plan has provided an important evidence base in shaping the priorities.

Everyone who lives, works and visits Bristol is invited to look at the draft Corporate Strategy and have their say through the consultation, which is open now at

Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, said: “Our city and the wider world face many serious challenges now and in the years to come. Our draft Corporate Strategy sets out a very real challenge to us and our partners to make positive changes, tackle complex, ingrained and long-term structural issues and work towards a values-led vision rooted in fairness and opportunity for all.

“We all want to feel included, we all need hope and we all aspire to something. This strategy is about doing all we can to make sure that the city council plays a leading role in enabling this to be everyone’s real experience of life in Bristol, in spite of the difficult circumstances we face.

“The Corporate Strategy serves as the foundation upon which all other council plans and strategies are built. When we make any major decision and, every year when we make annual plans for our hundreds of services, the Corporate Strategy is what we refer to and try to deliver. It’s vital we get it right for local people and we have listened carefully to the views of citizens, including our Citizens Assembly, when drafting the document. Now we want everyone to have their say and help us prioritise for the years to come.”

The consultation will last for six weeks and people can give their feedback until midnight on Sunday 26 September 2021. People’s responses to the consultation will be considered as a final draft of the strategy is developed. The responses will also be considered by both Cabinet and Full Council at their respective meetings on 2 November and 7 December 2021. The final decision about the Corporate Strategy rests with Full Council.
