Result of Bristol Mayoral election announced

Marvin Rees (Labour) is the Mayor Elect of Bristol following the city’s mayoral election. The result was announced today (Saturday 7 May 2016) by Returning Officer, Nicola Yates OBE.

Marvin Rees received 68,750 votes, finishing ahead of George Ferguson (Bristol First) who received 39,577 votes.

Mr Rees was declared winner of the election following the counting of both first and second preference votes after no single candidate received more than 50% of first preference votes.

The Mayor Elect will be sworn in as Mayor of Bristol following a swearing in ceremony on Monday 9 May 2016. 

The counting of ballots in the Bristol local elections will take place on Sunday 8 May.
