A new traffic light system is due to be installed this week to help manage four approaches to Plimsoll Bridge over the Cumberland Basin.
The improvement work will start on Thursday (7 June) and is designed to stop vehicles when the swing bridge is opening for harbour activity. The new traffic arrangement will complement and run alongside the existing flashing amber/red lights, minimising disruption to road users.
Traffic management at each approach will give bridge operators more time to safely stop vehicles before each bridge swing starts.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place initially until a permanent solution is finalised. The temporary system will see normal traffic lights installed on all four approach roads to the bridge.
There will be minimal disruption to traffic as the system will be installed at night and there will be no lane closures.
