A special event celebrating the life of MP Jo Cox and the causes she championed will be held on College Green tomorrow (Wednesday 22 June)

Taking inspiration from Jo Cox’s maiden speech after she was elected as MP for Batley and Spen, the event, titled ‘#MoreInCommon’, will celebrate diversity, humanity and democracy.

Mrs Cox was killed in an attack in Birstall, West Yorkshire on 16 June.

The non-political event will feature speakers from across Bristol’s business, community, voluntary and faith networks.  Mayor Marvin Rees, the Bristol Youth Mayors and representatives from Avon and Somerset Police and the education sector including University of Bristol, University of West of England and City of Bristol College will also speak and reflect on the values Ms Cox represented and fought for.

The event will also be an opportunity for local people to show their support and sympathies for Jo’s husband and two young children.

The event has been organised by the office of Mayor of Bristol.
