Bristol City Council, the Department for Work and Pensions and N-Gaged Training are working together to put on a special job fair for ex-employees of Palmer and Harvey.
The groceries supplier went into administration last week.
It has been estimated that hundreds of staff who used to work at local sites in St Anne’s and in Avonmouth have been made redundant as a result. Fortunately, in the current jobs market many of the skills these members of staff have are thought to be desirable to a wide range of local businesses.
The Employers Fair will take place next Monday 11th December at The Beeches Conference Centre, Broomhill Rd, Bristol, BS4 5RG between 11am and 1pm.
A few employers have been specially selected for the event who would have a particular interest in hiring people with similar skill sets. With demand high, all organisations involved are hopeful that the majority of staff will have found new positions either before or just after Christmas.
Cllr Anna Keen, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “We want to support our communities in times of trouble and have worked hard alongside our partner organisations to make sure we can offer some hope during this difficult time. I would like to thank our officers, the Department for Work and Pensions and N-Gaged Training for their work to pull this together quickly. I hope that we will see many former employees coming out to this jobs fair to meet the many employers who are queuing up to hire people with their highly desirable skill set.”
The fair is focused at ex-employees of Palmer and Harvey but anyone looking for similar work is welcome to attend.
Bristol City Council and the Department for Work and Pensions work closely to deliver a range of job fairs throughout the year. You can find information about upcoming jobs fairs by selecting job fairs at: http://ways2work.org.uk/employment-support/course-calendar/
