Elections are taking place today for the Mayor of Bristol, 70 local councillors for the 34 wards of Bristol, West of England Combined Authority Mayor and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset.
Electors can vote in person at polling stations from 7am to 10pm today. Staff have made sure that polling stations are covid-secure by using one-way systems, social distancing, screens, wearing face coverings and sanitising. Voters are asked to wear face masks unless exempt and are invited to bring their own pencil.
Your poll card will tell you where to vote or you can find out where your polling station is at our ward and polling station finder. You do not need to take your poll card to the polling station with you to vote.
You should not attend the polling station if you have symptoms of Covid-19, or if you have been asked to self-isolate. If you are self-isolating or have become unwell as a result of Covid-19, you don’t need to miss out on your vote. You can apply for an emergency proxy vote up to 5pm today
The emergency proxy application based on COVID-19 can be used if you're unable to vote in person at your polling station because you're self-isolating as a result of government guidance. You do not need to provide evidence for an emergency proxy based on COVID-19.
You can also apply for a medical emergency proxy or a work emergency proxy application, however these types of proxy vote need to be supported by evidence as follows:
A medical emergency proxy application must be supported by:
- a registered medical practitioner, including a dentist, optician, pharmacist, osteopath, chiropractor and psychologist
- a registered nurse
- a registered health professional
A work emergency proxy application must be supported by:
- a person aged 18 years or over who knows you and is not your spouse, civil partner, parent, grandparent, brother, sister, child or grandchild.
- your employer or another authorised person at your workplace.
