With the annual armed forces day parade and other events cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are encouraging people to find ways to participate in activities online instead.
The Lord Mayor said: “Whilst planned events are not able to take place this year because of the current situation, Bristolians can still take part by flying the armed forces day flag at home, taking a #SaluteOurForces selfie, or writing to a loved one or someone they know personally in the armed forces to boost their morale.
“This is an important opportunity to show our support for the men and women who make up our armed forces community - from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.”
A flag raising ceremony marking the beginning of the Armed Forces Day celebrations with the Lord Mayor and First Citizen, Councillor Jos Clark, High Sheriff, Dr J Manley, Lord-Lieutenant for Bristol Mrs Peaches Golding OBE, and a piper was shared on Wednesday 24 June on our social media channels (@BristolCouncil on Twitter and Facebook).
