Views invited on preferred masterplan for South Bristol housing scheme

The latest round of consultation events on emerging plans for a major South Bristol housing scheme have started today (7 December).

Bristol City Council is now inviting people to comment on the preferred masterplan for what could become the city’s largest housing regeneration scheme at Hengrove Park and Hartcliffe Campus.

The updated plans have been informed by opinions given at previous consultation events, which took place last month. The fresh round of events offers an opportunity to shape the final outline planning applications before they are submitted in spring 2018.

Cllr Paul Smith, Cabinet Member for Homes, said: “We have been listening closely to all the views and opinions we have received as we develop these plans. It’s essential that we take the local community on a journey with us throughout this process, which is why we have developed the preferred masterplan taking into account local people’s views.

“This next round of events provides another opportunity for residents and businesses to have their say as we continue to develop the final proposals. This scheme has the potential to benefit generations to come and revitalise this area of Bristol, providing a significant new park alongside much needed homes.”

A series of new events to canvas opinions will now take place in the local community from 7 – 20 December 2017 and 3-10 January 2018.

Staff will be on hand at Hengrove Leisure Centre on 7 December (3-7pm), 9 December (10-2pm) or 6 January (2-4pm). Alternatively staff will be available at Whitchurch Library on 6 January (10-1pm) or at Hartcliffe Library on 6 January from 11-2pm. The details of the preferred masterplan will be available at the events and online and people will be invited to leave comments and ideas by completing an online survey or a paper version from the venues.  A model of the scheme is available to view at Hengrove Leisure Centre from 7 December 17-31 January 18.

The public have until 10 January to have their say on Hartcliffe Campus plans and 31 January to have their say on plans for Hengrove Park.

Notes to Editors:

The project team working on the proposals includes consultants Aecom, LDS Architects, CSJ Planning and Avril Baker Consultancy. They have been appointed by the council to progress to the next stage of development by securing planning consent for the two sites. The council’s preferred delivery approach involves obtaining outline permission before finding developers for key areas that can be progressed quickly. From that point, the council would become the master developer, installing the necessary infrastructure for housing.
