Update on Plimsoll Bridge emergency repairs

One lane of Plimsoll Bridge remains closed to traffic for emergency repairs which are due for completion on Wednesday (2 August).

The lane was originally closed on Friday (28 July) to allow repairs to a metal plate on the road surface which had loosened.

The plate had bent upwards following bridge movements around the Harbour Festival, causing it to loosen and distort.

The repairs are complex due to the location of the plate and it would pose a safety risk to all road users if left unattended.

We need to maintain the lane closure for the temporary fix which involves taking the plate out and straightening it before it’s fixed back into position.

Lane closures on Cabot Way and Humphry Davy Way on both approaches to Plimsoll Bridge also remain in place.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We are working as quickly as possible to complete these repairs.
