Lane closure for emergency repairs to Plimsoll Bridge 28 Jul 2017 Share: Share on Twitter Share on Facebook Share on LinkedIn One lane of Plimsoll Bridge has been closed to traffic from lunchtime today and over the weekend for emergency repairs. Repairs made to metal plates on the road surface of the Bristol swing bridge have now failed. The plates were welded down in June but further bridge movements around the Harbour Festival appear to have loosened the plate fixings again. The metal plates are sticking up from the carriageway and therefore for the safety of all road users, we need to close one lane so a more robust temporary fix can be put in place, before a permanent repair can be made. We expect the closure to remain in place until Monday, when the temporary works are due to be made. It’s too early to give a precise time for the reopening but we will provide an update on Monday morning. There will also be lane closures on Cabot Way and Humphry Davy Way on both approaches to Plimsoll Bridge. Motorists are advised to avoid the outbound route, where possible, and to expect delays, especially during this evening’s peak traffic and on Monday. We apologise for the inconvenience during these essential works.
