The committee’s recommended candidate is Mike Jackson, current Chief Executive of North Somerset Council. This recommendation to Full Council follows a robust interview process that included a technical interview, rigorous leadership assessments and meeting with a range of local partners from across the city and an interview by a cross-party selection panel. Following this process the selection panel unanimously agreed to recommend Mike for the position. Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, said: “We have put in place a flatter, streamlined senior management structure that saves over £800,000 a year. I am grateful for the strong leadership shown during the transition period which helped us make huge progress. We’re now moving forward with these plans and offering Mike the opportunity to join us is one of the first steps on that journey. Mike has a track record of building strong, sustainable partnerships and holds a wealth of experience in local government across England. I am delighted he has accepted this offer and I hope members of Full Council consider him an appropriate choice to help us meet the ambitions we have for the city.” Mike Jackson said: “I am really excited about the offer of joining Bristol City Council and the opportunity to help drive the Council’s ambitious vision around wider leadership of place, working with partners across Bristol on the One City Plan as well as ensuring that the authority is supported by strong and effective corporate services. I’m a passionate supporter of the need to ensure that economic growth is sustainable and inclusive and confident that despite the significant challenges, the Council is poised to make real progress on this agenda.” The council’s senior management recruitment process continues and further announcements of appointments to these roles will be made in due course.
